The Treasurer is a constitutional officer required by the Constitution of Virginia who is elected by the citizens of King & Queen County. The Treasurer is responsible for collecting taxes and local fees and making payments on behalf of the local government. The Treasurer is also responsible for investing local funds on behalf of the County.

As we open our doors for the 2020 tax year, we want you to know that we care deeply about the health and safety of our guests, community and team members. King and Queen County has a dedicated Safety Leadership Team focused on staying up-to-date on CDC guidelines and recommendations. At this time, we will be limiting capacity in our lobby, have made modifications to our lobby, and how we interact with guests to help protect everyone.

Due to State mandates, face masks are required. In addition, King and Queen County has a cleaning service that is frequently sanitizing all high-traffic areas throughout the building. As you enter the building, you will notice the six foot spacing mandate in place. There will be only two people allowed at a time in our lobby due to this six foot spacing requirement. On the floor in the halls are indicators as to where to stand in order to remain in compliance with the State’s mandate until you can enter the Treasurer’s Office.

Avoid standing in line in the hallway by paying your taxes several ways this year.

NEW THIS YEAR: As you enter the building, at the entrance to the Sheriff’s Office is a locked drop box. You have the ability to enter the building and use this drop box 24 hours a day – seven days a week!

Just do the following:

(1) Tear off the bottom part of the tax bill; (2) Include a check or money order (NO CASH); (3) Put the above items in the enclosed envelope that came in your bill. Seal the envelope and put your name and telephone number on the outside of the envelope (just in case we need to contact you) and (4) DROP IN THE DROP BOX.

We will be processing those payments and mailing each taxpayer a receipt so that you know your payments were processed.

You can look on the back of the bill and see the other ways to pay your tax bill without coming into the office:

- Pay Taxes at the Two Banks Listed
- Pay Taxes by Credit Card Over the Phone
- Pay Taxes by Credit Card Over the Internet Click Here and input the King & Queen County jurisdiction code "6221"
- Pay Taxes by Mail
- Call the Treasurer’s Office and Pay Taxes Over the Phone with a Credit Card

If you have any questions, please call our office at 804-785-5978 or 804-769-5004.
