This building is a reminder of Newtowns
former prominence as a center of learning for both men and women in King
and Queen County. It originally opened in 1852 and was acquired by the
Newtown Female Seminary in 1854. The building was used as a hospital during
the Civil War. It has changed hands many times since then, and is now
a possession of the Turpin family.
