Samuel Gresham was the manager of a general
store and Newtowns postmaster when he built this house in 1845.
Five families including that of John O. Turpin have owned the house. Mr.
Turpin was a successful farmer and businessman, who served as Chairman
of the King and Queen County Board of Supervisors from 1956 until his
death in 1972.
